Mommy says: "Get that out of my house..."

devilish

another ebay gem. the item description that came with it is interesting too:

...MY SON PICKED THIS UP AT A FLEA MARKET LAST WEEK AND BROUGHT IT HOME...HE AND I BOTH LIKE IT...WE KNOW WE SHOULDNT LOOK AT IT SO MUCH...BUT WE CANT TURN AWAY...MY WIFE THINKS IT CAME RIGHT FROM HELL...AN INSTRUMENT OF THE DEVIL...SHE WANTS IT OUT OF THE HOUSE...SO IT MUST GO... THE BODY WAS CUT INTO A FLAMING BALL-LIKE SHAPE...DEFINATELY AN INSTRUMENT FROM HELL...SBUYER TO PAY $25.00 SHIPPING...HIGHEST BID OVER $9.00 TAKES IT...
$9, hey - good deal. i love the way the seller sounds like he is in a trance, possibly under mind control by the evil flaming-ball bass. so... his soul has been captivated by satan and now he is spreading evil via ebay auctions? (so what else is new?)

Whamola!

(click the picture for a larger version.)

we got this one sent in by our e-pal tracy:

"i recently saw les claypool and the frog brigade in orlando, FL. the last instrument that les brought out was this one string bass stick with a handle that stretched the string in all the range of weird sounds that les could make while slamming away at it with a drumstick. i'm trying to find a recording of that show on 7/20/2001 at the house of blues. the jam with the "whamola" (which from what i've found out may have been made for Les by a fan) was awesome, along with the rest of the set. if you guys know how to get a hold of such things, please let me know, i really want a recording of that show and of the frog brigade doing thier version of sgt. peppers lonely hearts club band. Thanx, Tracy"

interesting, huh? so, does anybody have any info for tracy? just drop us a line and we'll forward it along.

Huiras Dragon Bass

dragon

have you ever seen this bass? we were emailing back and forth a little bit with violin and guitar maker peter jay huiras a few months back but never got around to posting this bass. finally our pal randy sent us this pic as a reminder and we thought, okay we better put it up before we forget again. the carving is pretty incredible. how many scales is that? if you'd like to see more, you can visit peter jay's website here: http://www.guitarviolinmaker.com/. while you're there, make sure you visit my favorite part, the cat haus section! if i'm ever reborn as a cat, i want to go play on that!
